Perhaps the bureaucrats grappling with flying fox colonies up and down the east coast of Australia might consider similar policies for bats. Because the situation detailed in Richard Guilliatt’s cover story is ludicrous.
Witness the farcical battles to move bats from our major botanic gardens, and the bureaucratic nightmare that confronted residents of Gayndah, Queensland, when they tried to shift 300,000 winged invaders.
They’re native animals that should be protected, but nobody could describe the current protocols as sensible.
