THERE is a particular type of rage reserved for people who falsely pose as war veterans.

Military impostors, they're called, and to the genuine vets it doesn't get much worse: "They're walking in the blood of the dead," one returned soldier told our journalist Trent Dalton. So why do they do it? Money is sometimes the incentive, but often it's the respect and glory that comes with the medals, along with entry to a tight-knit and supportive group. As one man, who posed as a Vietnam veteran for almost 30 years, told Trent: "I just went along with it for the ride. And it was so bloody easy."
