Doctor’s Orders Brewing Iron Lung: Road Test

It’s Sydney Craft Beer Week - so how about a nice refreshing glass of Iron Lung?

Iron Lung? That’s a peculiar name for a beer.

Well, it’s a peculiar beer – a “black imperial pilsner”. It’s brewed like a lager but is black like Guinness, strong (7% alc), and tastes like a whirlwind of malt and dark chocolate against a backbone of bitter hops. It’s absolutely delicious.

Who makes it? Doctor’s Orders, which is a Sydney “cuckoo brewer” – that’s to say, it doesn’t have a brewery of its own, but takes over other people’s facilities to produce seasonal releases of “interesting, thought-provoking” beers. Bonkers beers, too. Anyone for a glass of Anaphylaxis (a “manuka smoked black IPA”), Vaccine (a “wheat wasabi porter”) or Defibrillator (a “weizen doppelbock aged in oak barrels”)?

Where can I try them? At Sydney Craft Beer Week, on now.

$10.99 per 500ml bottle, doctorsordersbrewing.com
