Broyeur prawn tool: Road Test

This kitchen tool is specially designed to prepare prawns for eating. But to be honest, who really needs it?

Hey presto: the prawn tool
Hey presto: the prawn tool

WHAT IS IT? A kitchen tool specially designed to prepare prawns for eating.

PULL THE OTHER ONE. THEY’VE JUST REPURPOSED A PAP SMEAR SPECULUM, HAVEN’T THEY. Perish the thought, no! Although the design is similar. You insert the tool down the back of the prawn, squeeze the handle and hey presto! The shell is removed.

WHEN YOU SAID “HEY PRESTO” I WAS EXPECTING SOMETHING, I DUNNO, A BIT MORE MAGICAL. Sorry if I oversold it. Anyway, you can also use this tool to remove the prawn’s vein.

THE VEIN! I LOVE HOW IT’S ALWAYS CALLED THAT. IT’S NOT A VEIN, PEOPLE, IT’S A POOP CHUTE! AND BY THE WAY, PRAWNS ARE THE COCKROACHES OF THE OCEAN! Can you please keep your voice down? Our dinner guests are starting to look uncomfortable.

ANYTHING ELSE? It’s made of stainless steel and the description on the online listing helpfully states: “Special feature: Durable”. Meaning, it’ll sit unused in your kitchen cupboard for years.

$8, available online
