The audacity of Anna Sorokin continues

The scammer would like to have the opportunity to "focus on something legal".

The scammer would like to have the opportunity to "focus on something legal".

Anna Sorokin, the infamous scammer and con artist also known as Anna Delvey, is exploring a new hustle - NFTs.

"I’m trying to move away from this like, quote unquote scammer persona," Sorokin, whose "scams" inspired a Netflix series and book, said.

"Hopefully I'll be given a chance, to like, focus all my energy into something legal."

Her new project is an attempt to move away from her criminal brand. A decision she made after becoming better known for her delinquencies, which ranged from stealing from businesses, friends and exclusive hotels while posing as a (fake) German heiress.

All of which have inspired a book (written by a mate who she ripped off) and a Netflix series, Inventing Anna.

Sorokin announced the new phase in her "story" in an interview in the US this week.

It was another interview from jail. She has also spoken to Australia's 60 Minutes from her prison cell too.

This next venture, called "Reinventing Anna" (really) includes exclusive access to her.

The infamous socialite has minted 10 NFTs that can be purchased with crypto and will allow the holders "exclusive access" and perks like one-on-one phone calls.

Three "ultra platinum" NFTs grant the opportunity to meet Sorokin in person, and holders will receive a package of "personal items" from Sorokin.

The Russian-born Sorokin, rose to fame (then infamy) after gaining traction in the elite Manhattan social scene.

Her status as a pretend socialite, who tricked a whole bunch of people, including a heap of savvy New Yorkers including employees from Vanity Fair, that she was sitting on a $85m trust fund gave her a platform to convince wealthy people to invest money in her "art foundation" and "social club".

She is in jail for overstaying her US visa and has said she'd rather sit in jail in the US than be a free woman back in Germany.

NFTs are the second foray into the art scene for Sorokin.

Back in May she hosted an invite-only art show of her exhibition titled "Allegedly", again, she did this virtually from prison.

"Welcome to my partyyyyyy," she told the crowd via video link in her vaguely Eastern European-accent.

"I wanted to capture some of the moments of the past years, both never-seen-before and iconic."

The reviews, were...not exactly glowing,

"I have seen the death of culture, and it was Anna Delvey's art show," is how Rolling Stone reported the event. "The convicted felon is back with what could possibly be her biggest scam of all: launching a career as an outsider artist."
