Hello there!

Happy Budget Day.

Introducing Jim Chalmers.

He's been the financial bridesmaid for about nine years and today is his big day.

The 41st Treasurer will hand down his first Budget in Canberra.

Anthony Albanese proof read the Budget on Monday.
Anthony Albanese proof read the Budget on Monday.

Here's more about the man of the hour.

He rolled into Parliament House early on Tuesday saying his first budget is aimed at "Australians who battle through hard times and who believe in a better future."

Look out for three key themes to his Budget - "responsible cost of living relief, strengthening the economy and beginning the "hard yards of budget repair."

He said (again) the Budget would be "solid, sensible and suited for the times."

Chalmers said that, amid extreme global uncertainty, "our best defence is a responsible budget at home."

He said the budget was an attempt to "lay the foundation of a stronger, more modern and more resilient economy."

Chalmers said the budget was also aimed at delivering on Labor's election commitments for "cheaper childcare and medicines" while also "getting wages moving again."

Gen X marks the spot

Speaking of men of the hour, Rishi Sunak is back.

He was he the former Chancellor, then lost to Liz Truss for the conservative leadership when his nemesis Boris Johnson quit. Now he's the new British Prime Minister.

It's been a busy 44-days for him too.

Both Boris Johnson and his former finance minister Rishi Sunak copped fines for breaching Covid-19 lockdown laws stemming from the "Partygate" scandal.
Both Boris Johnson and his former finance minister Rishi Sunak copped fines for breaching Covid-19 lockdown laws stemming from the "Partygate" scandal.

Miraculously, not only is he the youngest PM in Britain since the French Revolution, Sunak is also the first with Indian heritage. Sunak, just 42, was born in Southampton. His dad, Yashvir, is a doctor and his mum, Usha, is a pharmacist and the family are of Punjabi Indian descent. Serendipitously, Sunak won during Diwali. He is now the light of the conservative party after securing to top job with the support of more than 100 MPs.

"Sunak’s elevation to the top job seven years after first entering parliament comes as at a crucial time for the country, battling an astonishing cost of living crisis, and helping to support Ukraine’s defence in Europe," The Australian reports.

He also became PM appointee without even having to speak in public.

Sunak did that after he claimed the top job... for about a minute.

He said he was humbled and honoured to be the new Conservative party leader but warned “there is no doubt we face a profound economic challenge".

Mr Sunak gave a short 84 second address outside the Conservative party headquarters where he called for  “stability and unity”, saying it will be his utmost priority to bring the Tory party and the country together.

In a nervous and stilted delivery, Sunak said: “I pledge that I will serve you with integrity and humility, and I will work day in, day out, to deliver for the British people.”

He thanked Liz Truss for serving with "grace" under exceptionally difficult circumstances.

Sunak will officially become PM when he is sworn in by King Charles this week.

FitBit's refund race

FitBit  - the device that tells us to get 10,000 steps in a day - is now at the centre of a Federal Court drama.

The ACCC has initiated Federal Court proceedings against FitBit's US-based owner for allegedly making false or misleading representations to customers about their consumer guarantee rights under the Australian Consumer Law after their Fitbit wearable devices malfunctioned.

It's alleged between around May 2020 and February 2022, Fitbit made false or misleading representations to people claiming they would not be entitled to a refund unless they returned a faulty product within 45 days of purchase or shipment.

Beverley Leslie is dead, we're not doing well

For those of us who spent hungover weekends binge watching Will & Grace (on DVD), it is a sad, sad day.

Alum and all round star Leslie Jordan has died.

The artist also known for his character on the show called Beverley Leslie died in a single car crash in LA.

Jordan played Beverley Leslie character during Will & Grace‘s original run and when it was brought back in the late 2010s.

He won an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for the role of Karen Walker's enemy n 2006.

Jordan became an Instagram star during the pandemic for spreading joy and filming his dances and one-on-on convos about life in lockdown, always starting his videos with his catch cry "How y'all doing" before telling stories about his childhood in the south and fascination with Hollywood today.

Jordan Peterson is back

Add this to the case file that Australia is a refugee camp for former notable people lacking much relevance, Dr Jordan Peterson is embarking on a speaking tour here next month.

The Canadian psychologist who has many thoughts about gender and sexuality and only eats meat was booted off Twitter but will headline something called the "Super Aware Theatre".

Like clockwork, the protest placards have started production.

Sydney University Community Action of Rainbow Rights member Owen Marsden-Readford said he would protest outside the events in hopes to counter Peterson’s messages.

“I think if you take a pretty cursory look at what Jordan Peterson has to say about the world, it’s obvious he’s a hard right reactionary,” he said.

Do you even lift bro?

If so, can you call Madonna, she needs a new trainer.

The singer posted the job ad on TikTok.

"I need a New Trainer. Needs to be Extremely Experienced and knowledgeable about Fitness Training and Dance Cardio at the highest level!! Certification required as well as an Understanding of Nutrition and House Music!," she posted on Instagram.

"If you are qualified email here - send Resume to. Mtrainernyc@gmail.com"

It'll be a tough gig, the 64-year-old has been a long fitness devotee but despite coining the phrase "Madonna arms" during the late 1990s, she hasn't had much luck with trainers in the past.

"Once I had a Filipino trainer - this beautiful, beautiful girl. She was gorgeous and very talented as a trainer. But she f..ked my boyfriend, so I fired her," she said during her Rebel Heart tour back in 2016.

Kim calls out Kanye

You know it's bad when the most media managed woman on the planet "takes a stand".

Kim Kardashian has called out the antisemitic behaviours her ex-husband has encouraged as the fashion and media industry backlash around his actions continues.

West has now been dropped from Balenciaga and CAA - a major talent agency in the US and a doco he has finished has been cancelled.

He is now in discussions to buy Parler - a conservative media platform.

Good thing Medibank dropped "Private"from its branding

As the health insurer is anything but right now.

Medibank has revealed that cyber breach on its network is much wider than originally thought, after the criminal responsible sent the health insurer another 1000 policy records of customers which included personal and health claims data.

While the breach was originally believed to only have impacted only international student customers on Medicare' sub-brand, ahm, the hack now includes Medibank customer data.

On Tuesday the insurer issued a statement and said this was "a distressing development" and "unreservedly apologised" to customers.

"We have received a series of additional files from the criminal...Given the complexity of what we have received, it is too soon to determine the full extent of the customer data that has been stolen."

In the wake of the drama is has also announced a “comprehensive customer support package”.

The customer support package will include 24/7 mental health support and access to specialty identity protection advice, as well as additional support for “uniquely vulnerable” customers.
