Twee-heads, rejoice. Wes Anderson has confirmed details on his forthcoming 11th film, Asteroid City.

Wes will reunite with Roman Coppola. The pair previously worked together on Moonrise Kingdom, The Darjeeling Limited, Isle of Dogs, and The French Dispatch. The project was filmed in Spain last year.

Who has been cast in Asteroid City?

With every Wes Anderson film, comes a star-studded ensemble. Asteroid City is large even by his standards.

“It’s probably the best, the wildest cast since The Bridge on the River Kwai, I think it’s going to be quite an extravaganza,” says Fisher Stevens — who frequently features in minor roles.

"Most of the actors in this film have been in theatre except for the kids. We were all bubbled together in a hotel, which was an old monastery.”

There’ll be familiar faces with Anderson favourites Jason Schwartzman, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Willem Dafoe, and Tony Revolori all appearing. Bill Murray making his 10th appearance.

Scarlett Johansson, Bryan Cranston, Jefrrey Wright, Rupert Friend, and Stephen Park will return for seconds.

Margot Robbie, Tom Hanks, Steve Carell, Maya Hawke, Hong Chau, Matt Dillon and Hope Davis will make their debut.

It is set to arrive in 2023.

What’s the plot?

‘Plot’ is a leap when it comes to describing Anderson’s loose-limbed, outré films. Asteroid City has been described as a “poetic meditation on the meaning of life.” Set at a Junior Stargazer convention, in a fictional American desert town, 1955.

Where students and parents from across America are brought together for “scholarly competition, rest/recreation, comedy, drama, romance, and more.”

There’s not much to glean from the official description. But take solace in the knowledge you’ll soon be gorging on a mid-century pop soundtrack, satisfyingly symmetrical cinematography, and plenty of inspiration for your next Halloween costume.

The director already has his next project lined up. He’ll be directing his second Roald Dahl adaption (the first being 2009’s excellent The Fantastic Mr. Fox), The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar. The Netflix film will star Benedict Cumberbatch, Ralph Fiennes, Dev Patel, Ben Kingsley, and Richard Ayoade.
