Sami Shah is a comedian but he’s not joking when he says everyone has an opinion about Islam in Australia.

Sami Shah is a comedian but he’s not joking when he says everyone has an opinion about Islam in Australia. Especially now. Shah and his wife Ishma Alvi migrated here from Pakistan in 2012 and both have firm views on the faith they were born into, practised and then abandoned as adults.

They’ve lived the religion, seen it for good and bad, and ultimately decided they would not raise their daughter in a Muslim country. In a public debate that is often heated and hysterical, Shah and Alvi confront the issues surrounding Islam with refreshing openness – and in a way they could never safely do in Pakistan.
