Another Prophet to jump from outside barrier in Saturday’s Group 1 Australian Guineas at Flemington
Thousand Guineas winner Another Prophet has a surmountable task ahead of her in her quest for another Group 1 win in Saturday’s Australian Guineas at Flemington.
A filly winning the Group 1 Australian Guineas from barrier 16 has been done before, which is some comfort to Another Prophet’s connections heading in into Saturday $1m event at Flemington.
Mosheen achieved the feat in soft conditions in 2012 when beating the males to start a hat-trick of Group 1 wins that continued in the Randwick Guineas and Storm Queen Stakes in Sydney.

While facing the same task, Another Prophet has one thing on Mosheen.
She won the Group 1 Thousand Guineas in her spring three-year-old campaign while Mosheen was swept aside by the rampant Atlantic Jewel in her year.
Bookies rated Another Prophet as a $26 chance to become the seventh filly to win the race in early betting on Saturday’s edition of the Australian Guineas.
Another Prophet will attempt to give Ciaron Maher a second consecutive minor upset in the Australian Guineas after the premier trainer produced $19 chance Southport Tycoon to win last year.
Maher’s assistant trainer Jack Turnbull said the team was happy to forgive Another Prophet’s last-start sixth in soft conditions at Flemington on February 15.

“The last start, we thought the track worked against her and it was the first time we’d really tried her in that ground so that was a no-go,” Turnbull said.
Turnbull said Another Prophet’s first-up fourth against the males in the Group 3 Manfred Stakes at Sandown was a better indication of Another Prophet’s progress this time in.
“She’s going well,” Turnbull said.
“She was really good against the boys at Sandown fresh and she was quite fast.”

Mosheen and Grunt, the last horse to win from barrier 16 in 2018, came from off the pace while Another Prophet has been able to race in the first four from better draws in recent runs.
“She’s proven at the mile in Group 1 company against her own sex but Saturday is going to be harder against the boys from the wide draw,” Turnbull said.
“I don’t know if she’d go back or forward and try to slot in but, most importantly, the horse is very well.
“She got the mile very well at Caulfield, albeit she landed in a perfect spot, so hopefully lightning stakes twice.”
