Fremantle president Dale Alcock has strongly backed coach Ross Lyon amid complaints dating back several years as to his behaviour.

One related towards comments made to a former Fremantle staff member has been resolved to the agreement of all parties and also the AFL’s integrity unit. It has been reported the complainant received a payment after Lyon made inappropriate remarks to her at a work function.

Another related to a complaint at a bar in Fremantle several years ago, but the Dockers said the man involved had contacted the club and informed them he would be taking no action in regards to it.

The AFL is not investigating the second complaint, which was reported by the Herald Sun today.

Amid speculation surrounding the job security of Lyon, who led the Dockers to their only grand final appearance to date in 2013, Fremantle president Dale Alcock said he had the support of the club board.

“Since joining the club in late 2011, Ross Lyon has clearly demonstrated that he is a very experienced, hard-working and committed senior coach and that continues to be the case today,” Alcock said.

“Ross’ working relationship with his coaching team and playing group is outstanding and is reflected in the focused and cohesive way the players and coaches plan and prepare for every training session and every game.

“Ross is fully committed to our list rebuild and the ongoing development and growth of both our young and experienced players.

“Ross is also committed to and continues to demonstrate improvement and growth as a senior person at the club.

“As a club we are fully committed to Ross as our senior coach and the recent media speculation does not in any way alter the board and the club’s commitment to Ross as senior coach of the Fremantle Dockers.”

Lyon said he was saddened by the situation. He again reiterated he was unable comment on specifics related to the initial complaint due to the confidentiality requirements agreed to by all parties.

As to his coaching future, Lyon said he strood by his record and declared he had “no fears”.

“My reputation over 22 years has been hard-fought, hard-earned,” he said.

“At no stage have I questioned my coaching and commitment to this club. This really saddens me and I’m really sorry to see this.”
