The first player of the season scored four tries in a 1st Colts match as round two of the Sydney Rugby Union comp threw up some interesting results, an upset and directed the spotlight on four clubs.

Just two rounds in and only four teams have been undefeated in the competition after another full round of matches.

Gordon, Manly, Warringah and Sydney Uni have all recorded two wins in their opening encounters with Gordon topping the ladder after another monstrous scoreline.

Both Gordon and Sydney University established themselves as the form teams of the competition with good wins as Gordon exceeded its first round total of 78 with a rollicking 85 points on the board against Norths with eight different players scoring for them in the match.

Sydney University stood strong against Randwick to extended their winning run in the closest match of the round.

Defending champions Eastern Suburbs returned to the winners circle after an upset loss to Souths last week

“It was a shock for them,’’ coach Dan England said of the round one introduction to the intensity of the comp for many of his players who have only recently graduated from school rugby.

The Wildfires, West Harbour, Northern Suburbs and the Two Blues are still to record a win this season.

Winger Kami Tuqalo, who scored three tries in round one, was back on the scoreboard again with hooker Hamish Grover a standout.

Grover nailed two tries and fullback Sam Sharman converted twice.

After their shock loss a week ago, Easts were back on the right side of the scoreboard with their six point victory over a Hunter side turning heads this season.

“It was a pleasant change form last week. We saw a lot of improvement and some really positive things,’’ England said.

Fullback Louis Fenwicke was the star of the show for Easts at fullback with three tries.

Easts scorers: Ben Whyte 1, Louis Fenwicke 3, Jonty Fowler 3 conversions, 2 PK.
