The biggest moments from Day 3 of the Adelaide Test
From Mohammed Siraj’s clash – and quasi-making up – with Travis Head to perfect Pat’s haul, here watch the six big moments which shaped Day 3 of the second Test.
It didn’t reach the second session, but no-one could accuse the third day of the second Test of being boring.
Here are the six biggest moments from the day.
1. THE VILLAIN OF THE OVAL
Mohammed Siraj could not have been given a more hostile reception walking out to bat in Adelaide on Sunday if he was dressed as the Grim Reaper.
The crowd were waiting for him and the jeering started even before he had reached the playing surface. The locals salivated every time he showed a glimmer of discomfort against a Pat Cummins short ball.
That’s what you get when the take on local idol Travis Head in Adelaide as Siraj did the night before. The duo seemed to exchange some words before Siraj skied a catch to – who else? – Head.
2. THE COLDEST CUDDLE
Siraj threw kerosene on the fire early in the day when he branded Head a liar in an interview with Indian television. After the game he tried to patch up things with Head. They shook hands and a quick semi-hug but you certainly would not say it was dripping with warmth.
3. PUFFING AND PANTING
No matter what fate awaits the thrilling duel for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy this much is certain – Rishabh Pant will be fun to watch throughout.
Second ball of the day he skipped down the deck to Mitchell Starc and tried to launch him into kingdom come only to miss it and survive an appeal for a catch behind. Starc got his man soon after with an edge to second slip.
Fans sit upright when this cavalier of the crease appears. He will be good fun all series.
DOWN PAT
Don’t be fooled by the choir boy looks – Pat Cummins knows how to play tough cricket.
Cummins bowled a series of short balls which roughed up the Indian tail and sent a message that Australia is ready to play aggressive cricket.
The best of the morning was a snorter to Ravi Ashwin who tried to hook it but was out caught behind. Expect more of where that came from.
5. NONE-FOR
Sometimes in life, small things matter. Australia were chasing on 19 for victory but it was a small but sweet victory that they did not lose a wicket and Usman Khawaja snared the winning run with a signature pull shot.
6. THE WANTED INVASION
This should happen more often. The final day crowd of 33,184 didn’t get a huge amount of action but they were offered the chance to go on to the ground at the end of play.
Thousands took the chance to get close to the presentation.
