Providing a caring environment and endless opportunities
Loreto College Boarding provides students from regional SA and beyond the opportunity to learn independence and build lasting friendships.
I am Matilda Cummins, a Year 9 boarder at Loreto College Marryatville. I live in a tiny town called Lock, approximately seven hours from Adelaide. Lock has a population of about 200 people, and we don’t have many services there – we often drive a 200km round trip to go to the grocery store or doctor. It is a 330km round trip to go to the dentist and access other important services.
This is my first year at Loreto, and I’m loving every new experience that I have been given.
Things like the performing arts festival, swimming carnival and sports day have been some of my highlights. In my hometown, we did have sports and swimming carnivals, but nothing like Loreto’s. Even my classes are different from home because my old school had 45 students, so it meant lots of grades had to share classes. For three years, I was in a class with my brother, and last year my class included students from Years 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10.
Being a boarder at Loreto, you can always hang out with someone because there’s always someone around whether they are older or younger than you. The boarding sisters and supervisors who look out for you and the caring community that Loreto exhibits make the transition not only manageable, but enjoyable.
Meeting new people and hearing their stories has been one of my favourite things at Loreto. The day girls have basically adopted me into their family. I’m looking forward to the next few years here at Loreto College Marryatville.
