A boarding program that supports each boy’s character development

At Toowoomba Grammar School, boarders make up nearly one third of our student cohort from Years 5 to 12, which enables us to consider the boarding experience in all that we do at the school.

At Toowoomba Grammar School, boarders make up nearly one third of our student cohort from Years 5 to 12, which enables us to consider the boarding experience in all that we do at the school.

Here you will find a boarding experience that offers educational programs allowing every boy to deliver their best and develop their character. Every boarding experience at TGS is about equipping boys with the skills to function as a student and preparing them for their future.

We recognise that each student is unique; whether it is a university or vocational pathway they seek, our boarding program supports each boy’s journey. Our experienced staff guide students in the classroom and within the boarding houses, with personalised assistance available to help all students to thrive academically.

We prioritise the character development and wellbeing of our boarders. With nearly 150 years of experience, we understand what it takes to nurture young men into well-rounded individuals. We appreciate that every boy brings a distinct perspective to our boarding community, so we actively engage with families to develop a boarding program that recognises the value of these diverse experiences. The TGS boarding experience is one that is special for every boarder, but the constant is that each experience is unique due to the breadth and variety of options available to explore.

Boys of all backgrounds and abilities are given the opportunity to participate in a broad range of co-curricular and house-based activities in addition to their daily educational experience.

We work in partnership with our boarding community to foster a sense of community that is like no other.

At TGS, boarding is who we are.

WHO WE ARE
Toowoomba Grammar School is Queensland’s leading regional all-boys’ school from Prep to Year 12, with boarding from Year 5. Established in 1875, TGS provides boys with a high-quality, complete education that prepares them for lives of meaning and success.

WHAT SETS US APART
Families love the unique inland regional location, on spectacular grounds in a safe and welcoming community. Boys experience a range of opportunities to ignite their passion for discovery, including GPS sports and activities, outstanding arts programs and more. Boarders receive extensive academic support and enjoy weekend activities such as trips, movie nights and other recreational pursuits.

DEVELOPING GOOD CHARACTER
TGS focuses on the wellbeing of each boy to develop his character so he can flourish as an individual, contribute to society and lead a meaningful life. After nearly 150 years of boarding, we are specialists in boys’ education and are committed to helping them grow into good young men. Courage, integrity, respect and a strong work ethic is at the heart of every graduate. The boarding program focuses on caring for each boy as a whole person. Our experienced boarding team works closely with families to build strong relationships and foster good communication between the school and family.

OUR BOARDING COMMUNITY
Each of our six boarding houses is under the supervision of a head of house who lives with their family in an apartment within their boarding house. A dedicated house for our boys in Years 5 to 7 helps them to settle in under the watchful care of a nurturing house mother. We also have numerous specialist staff on hand to support our boarders, including nurses in the on-site health centre, dining hall and laundry staff, activities officers, academic tutors, sporting coaches and counsellors.
