ACCUSED Serbian war criminal Dragan Vasiljkovic today lost his bid to stay in Australia. Vasiljkovic, who appeared at Sydney's Central Local Court, was told by Deputy Chief Magistrate Paul Cloran he was wanted by the Republic of Croatia on charges of war crimes against the population of Croatia.
"(Vasiljkovic) is eligible for surrender to the Republic of Croatia," Magistrate Cloran said.
Vasiljkovic has 15 days to appeal in the Federal Court against his extradition, and his lawyer Brad Slowgrove said outside court that his client intended to appeal.
Croatian authorities allege that as a member of Serbian paramilitary forces in the early 1990s in Krajina, he brutalised a captive soldier, ordered a murder and told troops to fire on a town.
