Grab your boater, fascinator or crown because the Melbourne Cup Carnival is about to start.

The marquees in the Flemington Birdcage are as opulent as ever with a champagne tower at the VRC’s 1 Oliver St, a snake charmer at newcomer Kennedy and a yacht at G.H. Mumm.

Whether you’re dining on oysters at Emirates or a Cape Grim beef and ale pie at Boags, you have no excuse to miss the races as these marquees have some of the best views of the track.

Serious punters can listen for tips at the Tabcorp marquee which also overlooks the racecourse to best gauge the track conditions.

Schweppes has six cocktails on offer which should cater for nearly all tastes and inspire at home innovations but if you’re just after a beer, a glass of wine or bubbly the Birdcage also has you covered.

After the last race when ladies are tired of putting their best foot forward, make sure that you’ve picked up a pair of sandals or ‘Myer Slides’.
