Major email outage blamed on extreme weather event in Western Australia
A major email outage has hit Australian customers over Christmas after a weather event.
National NBN provider iiNet is experiencing a national outage affecting potentially thousands of people across the country.
Customers of iiNet across Australia have reported major disturbances to their emails, with the NBN provider’s web services and internet page also unavailable.
The issue means customers are unable to send or receive emails over the Christmas period, leading to multiple complaints to the service.

Addressing public complaints on its Twitter page on Boxing Day, iiNet blamed the tech issues on a major weather event in Western Australia the caused issues at the iiNet data centre.
“We are experiencing some impacts to our customer service operations. Internet and mobile services are still available,” iiNet wrote.

“We apologise for any inconvenience, we are working to restore operations as soon as possible.”
Customers on Christmas and Boxing Day reported email and server issues.
It is unknown when the issue will be rectified, but the company said it was working to fix the problem.
In a statement a spokesperson for iiNet apologised to affected customers.
“Internet and mobile services for iiNet customers are still available and unaffected,” the spokesperson said.
“Impacted services include the iiNet website and iiNet domain email services. The iiNet customer call centre is available for basic troubleshooting only at this time.
“We apologise to customers for any inconvenience. Our IT team is working to restore operations as soon as possible.”
