Live Breaking News: Business Council says lockdown restrictions 'a massive blow to our recovery'

A leading business figure has painted a grim picture following NSW's restrictions, which will put 500,000 tradies out of work and a massive bill on the government's table.

NSW records 105 new local COVID cases, 27 infectious in the community

Gladys Berejiklian has confirmed 105 new cases of coronavirus overnight, with the majority of cases still confined to the south-west Sydney region currently in hard lockdown.

The state confirmed a fourth death linked to the current outbreak overnight, a woman aged in her 90s.

The new restrictions imposed on non-essential services have already cost the Government $130 million in disaster payments, with an estimated 500,000 workers in the construction industry alone out of work.

Business Council chief executive Jennifer Westacott said the restrictions are a "massive blow" to Australia's recovering economy, calling for the government to introduce rapid testing to get feet back on the ground.

27 of the 105 detected cases on Sunday were confirmed to be in the community while infectious.

The total number of vaccines administered in NSW is now 3,031,331, with 1,175,756 doses administered by NSW Health to 8pm last night

Meanwhile, 17 new locally acquired cases were detected in Victoria overnight. The results came after more than 53,000 coronavirus tests were conducted in the 24 hours to midnight on Saturday.

The state now awaits further instruction on the potential extension of its current five-day lockdown.
