Phelps to preference Libs

Independent Wentworth candidate Kerryn Phelps has announced she will be preferencing the Liberal party before Labor. Dr Phelps unexpectedly made the announcement to the media which was waiting for an appearance by Prime Minister Scott Morrison with Liberal candidate Dave Sharma in Double Bay.

“If I wanted to stand for the Labor Party, I would have stood for Labor preselection. I’m standing as an independent and that is what I am going to do.”

Beware ‘ideological’ coal

The architect of the dumped national energy guarantee says the industry should be wary of ideological arguments in favour of new coal-fired power stations and warns the construction of the plants remains uneconomic in Australia. Energy Security Board chairwoman Kerry Schott told a business conference yesterday the case for building high-efficiency, low-emissions plants in Australia did not stack up.
