Three in hospital after fiery crash during police chase in Sydney
A vehicle carrying six passengers hit a tree while being pursued by police in Sydney’s north.
Three young people have been taken to hospital with serious head injuries after a driver with five passengers lost control of a vehicle and hit a tree while being pursued by police.
Shortly after 4.30pm on Sunday, the driver of a suspected stolen vehicle ploughed into a tree along West St in suburban Cammeray in Sydney’s north, with the police officers in pursuit providing immediate assistance at the crash site.
At least five people suffered injuries in the crash, including three with serious head injuries; the NSW Ambulance said they were rushed to the Royal North Shore and Royal Prince Alfred hospitals.
The people in the vehicle were aged in their late teens and early 20s, The Australian understands.
Footage of the crash site taken moments after the incident showed the wrecked car wrapped around the tree and a man being carried on a stretcher by emergency services.
Pursuing police officers tried to extract the passengers after smashing through the vehicle’s windows.
Witnesses said the car was being chased by police before it crashed into a tree and burst into flames.
