Detectives investigating the death of an eight-year-old boy whose body was found in Canberra’s Yerrabi Pond a day after his mother and brother were recovered from the same waters, say they do not believe anyone else was involved in their deaths.

Shortly before 11am on Sunday, ACT police discovered the body of Pranav Vivekanandan after a taskforce scoured the body of water and surrounding bushland at Gungahlin in Canberra’s north.

The bodies of Pranav’s mother and brother were recovered on Saturday after they were seen floating in the pond.

Investigators have recovered a white Subaru from the banks of the pond. The car had a baby seat in the back and was said to have been at the edge of the pond since 4am on Saturday.

The circumstances surrounding the deaths of the three family members remain unclear, but police said they did not believe anyone else was involved or party to the incident.

Detective Superintendent Hall O’Meagher said officers who attended the scene were deeply distressed and would likely require welfare support.

Superintendent O’Meagher said investigators were speaking with family members, who were helping ACT police with their inquiries.

On Sunday afternoon, locals began laying flowers for the three family members at the edge of Yerrabi Pond after authorities ended their search of the area.
