Secret application in Bruce Lehrmann rape trial to be heard
Chief Justice Lucy McCallum has confirmed that the court will hear the application on December 2 but the media are not allowed to attend or report on the matter.
A secret application in the rape trial of Bruce Lehrmann will be heard in the ACT Supreme Court next week.
Chief Justice Lucy McCallum has confirmed that the court will hear the application – which was filed on Tuesday – on December 2 but the media are not allowed to attend or report on the matter.
Justice McCallum said that non-publication orders had been made in respect of the application which was filed on November 22 forbidding publication of the content of the application and evidence intended to be given in support of the application.
She also stipulated that only court officers, legal representatives and the parties would be allowed inside the courtroom.
Mr Lehrmann’s barrister Steven Whybrow said he could not comment on the application.
This comes after Mr Lehrmann’s high-profile rape trial was aborted last month due to juror misconduct.
A retrial has been set down for February 20 and Director of Public Prosecutions Shane Drumgold has confirmed that he would run the case again.
Ms Higgins alleges Mr Lehrmann raped her inside senator Linda Reynolds’ office at Parliament House in March 2019.
Mr Lehrmann, 27, was last year charged with sexual intercourse without consent and has since pleaded not guilty, denying any sexual intercourse occurred.
