Pollsters to continue Newspoll surveys under different banner
Newspoll has changed providers but the pollsters behind the survey, Campbell White and Simon Levy, remain the same.
The latest Newspoll marks the first after a six-week gap.
Newspoll has changed providers but the pollsters behind the survey remain the same. Campbell White and Simon Levy had been conducting Newspoll surveys for The Australian through YouGov from 2019 to June this year.
They will continue to conduct Newspoll surveys but now under a different company banner, Pyxis Polling & Insights. While there has been a switch to a new polling company, the methodology remains the same.
Newspoll will continue to use the same set of questions it has asked since 1985, and the same methodology Dr White and Mr Levy designed after the 2019 election while at YouGov. This methodology has produced consistently accurate results, including a two-party preferred figure within one point of the actual result at the past four state and federal elections.
Pyxis Polling & Insights is a member of the Australian Polling Council, and Newspoll will continue to adhere to its code of conduct, which requires a methodology statement to be published after each poll.
The emphasis has always been on maintaining the accuracy of Newspoll and the consistency of the data series as much as possible, while being flexible enough to adapt as Australia changes. While Newspoll has changed providers the commitment to these principles remains unchanged.
The Australian’s editor-in-chief, Michelle Gunn, said the changes meant Newspoll would continue to be run by Australia’s most knowledgeable political pollster. “We are delighted that Dr White’s expertise and experience will continue to drive Newspoll and maintain its longstanding reputation as the most accurate and important poll of Australian politics and political issues,’’ Gunn said.
Newspoll, published exclusively in The Australian, has predicted the TPP result to within one percentage point of the actual result in the most recent federal, NSW, Victorian and South Australian elections.
