Figures from across political spectrum to pay tribute at Kimberley Kitching’s funeral

Politicians and powerbrokers from across the political spectrum will be at St Patrick’s Cathedral on Monday for Kimberley Kitching’s funeral.

Politicians and powerbrokers from across the ideological spectrum will assemble at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Melbourne on Monday for the funeral of Kimberley Kitching.

The Labor senator died suddenly of a suspected heart attack two weeks ago, aged 52.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews and former premier Steve Bracks will be among mourners paying tribute to Senator Kitching, alongside her devoted husband, Andrew Landeryou.

Anthony Albanese will be joined by members of his federal frontbench, including Richard Marles, Penny Wong, Kristina Keneally, Tony Burke, Bill Shorten, Tanya Plibersek, Don Farrell, Mark Dreyfus, Michelle Rowland, Katy Gallagher, Brendan O’Connor and Madeleine King.

Labor stalwarts Joel Fitzgibbon and Kim Carr have RSVPed, so have senators Murray Watt, Jenny McAllister, Anthony Chisholm, Deborah O’Neill and Raff Ciccone. Former Victorian ALP powerbroker Stephen Conroy is also due to appear.

Kimberley Kitching to be farewelled

Several of Scott Morrison’s cabinet are expected to attend, including Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce; Finance Minister Simon Birmingham, who doubles as leader of the government in the Senate; Defence Minister Peter Dutton; and Attorney-General Michaelia Cash.

Other federal Liberals on the guest list include Andrew Hastie, Zed Seselja, Amanda Stoker, ­Nicolle Flint, James Paterson, Sarah Henderson, Jonathon Duni­am, Tim Wilson, Katie Allen, Dave Sharma, Greg Mirabella, David Van and Senate president Slade Brockman.

Victorian Liberal leader Matthew Guy and his deputy, David Southwick, will also be at Monday’s service.

The Australian understands there will be a strong show of force from the union movement, with appearances by Health Workers Union secretary Diana Asmar; Plumbers Union’s Earl Setches; Australian Workers Union’s Ben Davies; Rail Tram and Bus Union’s Luba Grigorovitch; and CFMEU boss John Setka.

Rounding out the attendees are disgraced former state minister Adam Somyurek, former AWU secretary Cesar Melhem and One Nation leader Pauline Hanson.

Retiring Liberal MP Kevin Andrews and former prime minister Tony Abbott have also indicated they will be at the Catholic service, as will Greens senator Janet Rice.
