Backbencher Jackie Trad launches climate attack against federal government
The former Queensland Deputy Premier uses her first speech since her relegation to attack the federal government.
Former Queensland Deputy Premier Jackie Trad has attacked the federal government over climate change policy, in her first speech since being relegated to the backbench amid a corruption investigation.
Ms Trad rose from the backbench in state parliament on Thursday to slam the "impotence of federal legislators specifically" and the political system generally, on a lack of action on energy and climate change policy.
She said the federal coalition's energy policy had been a "disaster," and contrasted it with the Queensland government which had put in place a 50 per cent renewable energy generation target.
Ms Trad said the target gave the state the economic certainty necessary to attract more than $6bn worth of investment.
Ms Trad this week confirmed she would nominate again to run for Labor in the marginal seat of South Brisbane, despite the Crime and Corruption Commission confirming it had launched an investigation into her alleged interference in the recruitment of a high school principal in her electorate.
The former deputy premier and treasurer has denied any wrongdoing.
