‘Horrific’: Hunt after gunman after Halloween rave shooting
Police have described a shooting in Melbourne, in which a man has been killed, as a horrific incident.
A man has died after he was found with gunshot wounds near a train station in Melbourne’s inner north on Saturday morning.
Emergency services were called to Langford Street in North Melbourne at 3.15am following reports a man was seriously injured after being shot.
The man, who is yet to be identified, died at the scene.
Homicide detectives have established a crime scene and are working to determine what led to the fatal shooting.
It is believed the fatal shooting occurred after a Halloween rave when a fight reportedly broke out among partygoers before the deadly incident.
The dead man’s body could be seen covered by tarp on Saturday morning as forensics officers combed the scene.
Crime Command Detective Acting Inspector Alan Rumble said it was a “horrific incident” but there was nothing to suggest a lingering threat to the community.
“I acknowledge the offenders have not yet been identified and arrested ... there is nothing to suggest there is an ongoing immediate risk to the community or to others involved,” detective Rumble said.
“It’s a horrific incident, it’s something that none of us want to experience, police or the local community.”
“Our real goal here today is to ensure that the family of the victim are supported at this horrible time, ensure the offenders are brought to account and give the local community assurance that Victoria Police take this seriously and we are here to support them,” he said.
Mr Rumble said there would be a heightened local police presence in the vicinity of the shooting on Saturday and appealed for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
The gunman remains at large.
