'Their Pravda': Why Musk took aim at ABC

U.S. podcaster Joe Rogan has hit back after ABC chair Kim Williams described him as “deeply repulsive” in an address to the National Press Club on Wednesday.

On Thursday Joe Rogan reposted a clip of the statements by the ABC chair on Twitter/X, with the comment “LOL WUT”. It has since been reposted 10 thousand times.

Among the reposts was X owner Elon Musk, who said the video clip was “From the head of Australian government-funded media, their Pravda”, a reference to the newspaper of the Russian Communist Party.

Rogan is the host of Spotify’s number one ranking podcast with over 14.5 million listeners and is said to have contributed to Mr Trump securing the election with his 11th hour endorsement.

“I think people like Mr Rogan prey on people’s vulnerabilities,” Mr Williams told the Press Club.

“They prey on fear, they prey on anxiety, they prey on all of the elements that contribute to uncertainty in society.

“They entrepreneur policy outcomes and conspiracy outcomes as being a normal part of social narrative.

“I personally find it deeply repulsive, to think that someone has such remarkable power in the United States is something that I look at in disbelief”.

“I’m also absolutely in dismay that this can be a source of public entertainment, when it’s really treating the public as plunder for purposes that are really quite malevolent”.

A spokesman for the ABC said “We stand by his (Kim Williams) comments,” and the broadcaster “had nothing further to add”.
