Hundreds of people packed out a Ballarat funeral centre on Monday afternoon as friends and family gathered to remember Clunes woman Hannah McGuire.
Among the mourners was Essendon captain Zach Merrett as the beloved teaching aide was farewelled in emotional scenes.
Several Essendon players were among the crowd. Bomber Nick Hind is Ms McGuire’s cousin.
Ms McGuire’s former boyfriend Lachlan Young, 21, has been charged with murder and remanded in custody.
Cars lined several streets outside Doveton Park Funeral Centre, with a crowd of hundreds packed into the centre for a service in her memory.
The funeral began with a selection of Ms McGuire’s favourite songs and featured multiple visual presentations, including from staff and students at Delacombe Primary School.
Goodbye by Kenny Rogers was played as the service ended and Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol was to be played at the cemetery.
“You will be sadly missed but will forever remain in our hearts and live in the memory of those who held you dear,” Ms McGuire’s family wrote on pamphlets handed to attendees.
“Hannah’s family thank all for attending today’s celebration of Hannah’s life.
“Your care and support is very much appreciated.”
Many attendees embraced one another in tears as the funeral ended after about 45 minutes. The hearse then proceeded to Creswick Cemetery.
Ms McGuire’s body was discovered in a burnt-out car in bushland near State Forest Rd in Scarsdale earlier this month.
