Australia has reached a grim milestone in its struggle to contain the COVID-19 pandemic after the country recorded its 100th death from the virus on Monday.

Alice Bacon, 93, has become the 19th person to die at Newmarch House in western Sydney and she also becomes the 100th coronavirus death in Australia.
