Woman dies as car veers off cliff on Great Ocean Road
The car plummeted into the ocean opposite Broadbent Road in Lorne, police said.
A woman is dead after the car she was driving on Victoria’s Great Ocean Road veered off a cliff into the ocean.
The incident occurred opposite Broadbent Road in Lorne about 1.20pm on Wednesday, police said.
Volunteers from Victoria’s State Emergency Service assisted police and members of the Country Fire Authority at the scene in rescue efforts.
“The yet to be identified female has been recovered from the car deceased and there were no other occupants,” a police spokesperson said.
“The cause of the crash is yet to be determined and the investigation is ongoing.”
The Great Ocean Road has been closed between Eastern View and Lorne, with the Department of Transport urging motorists to take the inland detour through Winchelsea and Deans Marsh.
