Barnaby Joyce, Vikki Campion tie the knot in Walcha ‘bush bash’
Barnaby Joyce and Vikki Campion have tied the knot in front of more than 80 close family and friends, with guests encouraged to arrive in 4x4 vehicles, which were parked to one side of the aisle.
Former Nationals leader Barnaby Joyce and political staffer-turned-journalist Vikki Campion have tied the knot in true country fashion.
Ms Campion embraced the “bush bash” theme, marrying Mr Joyce in a bold pair of black, knee high cowboy boots while the pair donned matching akubras and the groom wearing what appeared to be a native flower boutonniere on his lapel.
The pair, whose love affair led to Mr Joyce’s resignation as deputy prime minister and Nationals leader, wed at the Nationals MP’s family estate in Walcha, northeastern NSW, surrounded by more than 80 close family and friends.
A number of high-profile guests were also seen to be in attendance at the event, including Nationals MP George Christensen.
It is understood guests were encouraged to arrive in 4x4 vehicles, which were parked to one side of the aisle, where Ms Campion’s father, Peter, gave her away.
The celebration was reportedly pink and ivory-themed, and Ms Campion wore a strapless cream tulle dress with a long train, and gold accessories.
Mr Joyce and Ms Campion’s two sons, Sebastian and Thomas, matched their father in chinos and a formal blue vest.
The newlyweds could be seen chatting and laughing with their guests.
It is unclear whether Mr Joyce’s four daughters to ex-wife Natalie Abberfield – Julia, Caroline, Odette, and Bridgette – attended the nuptials.
Julia Joyce last month responded to her father’s outback wedding plans in an Instagram video in which she donned a vintage wedding dress. “Getting ready to crash my dad’s wedding I didn’t get invited to … in my mum’s wedding dress,” she wrote in the video on her story.
The pair’s relationship had rocky beginnings, first making headlines in February 2018 when The Daily Telegraph published photos of the heavily pregnant former-staffer Ms Campion, then aged 33. The pair had just moved in together and were expecting their first child in April that year. They were reported to be “madly in love” following the breakdown of his 25-year marriage.
Mr Joyce proposed to Ms Campion at Coffs Harbour in January 2022 and said at the time: “Some are happy and some are understandably not as happy.”
