Barnaby Joyce weds ex-staffer Vikki Campion at ‘bush bash’ wedding
The former Nationals leader and ex-staffer exchanged vows at the “bush bash” wedding with cowboy boots and Akubra hats.
Former Nationals leader Barnaby Joyce and ex-staffer Vikki Campion have said ‘I do,’ at an intimate “bush bash” wedding, affectionately described by one guest as a “bachelor and spinster ball”.
Mr Joyce, 56, and new wife, Ms Campion, 38, were pictured donning Akubra hats at his family estate in Woolbrook, near Walcha in northeast NSW.
The pair were seen smiling while talking to guests at the much anticipated event, five years after their relationship was exposed.
Mr Joyce resigned as deputy prime minister and Nationals leader as a result.
The celebration was reportedly pink and ivory-themed, with the once-low key event swelling to more than 80 guests.
Ms Campion was pictured wearing a strapless cream tulle dress with a long train, accessorised with gold earrings and heeled black cowboy boots.
The Daily Telegraph reports the couple’s two sons, Sebastian, 5, and Thomas, 4, were both page boys at the ceremony, and wore matching chinos and navy waistcoats.
Speaking to the publication, one guest said it was a “very touching ceremony at a place on the property that had special meaning to Barnaby”.
“Afterwards it was back to the Woolbrook hall for a food and drink that was very country, just like a bachelor and spinster ball,” they said.
Billed as a return to “country style”, guests arrived in 4x4s, with many of the cars parked next to the aisle.
Women overwhelmingly opted for flat shoes at the event, while broad-brimmed hats were another common sight.
A number of high profile guests were also seen to be in attendance at the event, including Nationals MP George Christensen.
Following the ceremony, Ms Campion was pictured talking to a small child who appeared to be her young son, Sebastian.
It is unclear whether Mr Joyce’s four daughters to ex-wife Natalie Abberfield – Julia, Caroline, Odette, and Bridgette – attended the nuptuals.
Julia Joyce last month responded to her father’s outback wedding plans in an Instagram video in which she donned a vintage wedding dress.
“Getting ready to crash my dad’s wedding I didn’t get invited to … in my Mum’s wedding dress,” she wrote in the video on her story.
It is understood guests were encouraged to arrive in 4x4 vehicles and that Ms Campion’s father, Peter, would be giving her away.
Mr Joyce made headlines last year when he proposed to Ms Campion, a journalist, having left his wife of more than 25 years.
