Former deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce has married his former staffer Vikki Campion in a “bush bash” wedding on a remote property in his New England electorate.

Mr Joyce, 56, and Ms Campion, 38, tied the knot in front of more than 80 guests who arrived in four wheel drive vehicles at his family estate near Walcha in northeast NSW.

The couples’ two sons, Sebastian, 5, and Thomas, 4, were page boys for the ivory and rose themed country wedding that was expected to carry on well into the night. They wore chinos and navy waistcoats over white shirts and walked ahead of their mother as she arrived for the ceremony.

The couple both wore Mr Joyce’s trademark Akubra country hats for the service under trees on Mr Joyce’s property at Danglemah between Tamworth and Armidale.

In her vows Ms Campion praised Mr Joyce as a family man and said how much they loved family life together on their farm.

The guests then headed back to the nearby town of Woolbrook for food, drink and dancing in the village hall.

It was not clear if any of Mr Joyce’s four daughters he had with ex-wife Natalie attended the wedding although Julia, Caroline, Odette and Bridgette were all understood to have been invited.

Ahead of the wedding Mr Joyce’s daughter Julie contradicted that, posting on Instagram wearing her mother’s ivory wedding dress and with her mother wearing a wedding veil in the background.

“Getting ready to crash my dad’s wedding I didn’t get invited to … in my Mum’s wedding dress,” she wrote.

Mr Joyce was accused of a “shocking error of judgement” by then Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull when he left his wife of 25 years for his pregnant staffer in 2018.

He resigned as deputy prime minister and Nationals leader but has remained a passionate member of parliament for his New England electorate and a vocal opponent to the spread of wind farms.

The couple made more headlines when Mr Joyce got down on two knees to ask Ms Campion to marry him at a Coffs Harbour restaurant in January last year.

“She went to the bathroom and I told the guys at the restaurant ‘I’m going to propose and if this works out well, it’s going to be real nice. If it doesn’t, I will join you at the bar for about a day’,” he said.

He said later he waited for most of the other diners to leave in case she said no.

“Rather than being down on one knee I ended up being down on two. I was saying my prayers,” he said of the successful proposal that came with a parti sapphire engagement ring from Inverell in his electorate.

Ms Campion was walked down the “aisle” in an ivory wedding dress and cowgirl boots by her father Peter, who has made amends with his new so-in-law after initially threatening to “take a shotgun” to him when he learnt of the affair.

Male guests followed Mr Joyce’s lead and were mostly attired in the country uniform of tan chinos, brown RM Williams boots and navy jackets and included Queensland senator Matt Canavan, former conservative politician George Christensen and Tamworth mayor Russell Webb.

“It was a very touching ceremony at a place on the property that had special meaning to Barnaby,” one of the guests told The Daily Telegraph.

“Afterwards it was back to the Woolbrook hall for a food and drink that was very country, just like a bachelor and spinster ball.”

The happy couple are not expected to go on a honeymoon. Ms Campion’s father Peter said they “have no time” and will be back at work in Canberra for a parliamentary sitting week.

‘The kids go into the creche at Parliament House – with the cleaners’ kids,” Mr Campion told reporters before the wedding.
