The Gold Coast’s reputation as a playground for the rich and famous is attracting interest from developers, with another superyacht marina approved for the holiday destination.

Developer Gordon Corp has been given the green light to forge ahead with plans for its mixed-use Mantaray Marina & Residences precinct, which will include the coast’s first dedicated superyacht marina as part of a mixed-use project that will also provide luxury waterfront residences, retail and a club lounge.

It will sit on nearly a hectare of land on The Spit at Main Beach, in a leasing deal with the state government for an undisclosed amount on a 120-year term. The project is slated to be completed in 2025.

Gordon Corp founder and managing director, Tim Gordon, said Mantaray had been designed as a world-class experience.

Superyacht bursts into flames

“Mantaray Marina & Residences represents the first new development on The Spit since Palazzo Versace more than 20 years ago, and our investment in this precinct will create one of the world’s most coveted superyachting destinations,” Mr Gordon said.

Last year, the Ritz Carlton announced it would build its latest hotel on The Spit, comprising 150 guest suites to complement a refurbished superyacht marina. It is due to open in 2026.

Mantaray plans show a 67-berth superyacht marina with moorings up to 60m, alongside 24 ultra-luxury residences, luxury resort facilities, an exclusive private club lounge, and ground-floor retail and dining experience.

An exclusive 10 luxury four-bedroom addresses is also included, with each offering a private lift, four car parks, and an exclusive rooftop terrace space.

“To live on The Spit is incredibly rare and will remain so with the height limits and planning allocations in place for the balance of land, which is predominantly dedicated to hotel and recreation use,” Mr Gordon said.
