24-year-old woman charged with murder following suspicious Queensland shed fire
A 24-year-old former Biggenden woman, with no connection to deceased father Todd Mooney and his 10-year-old daughter, Kirra, has been charged with their murder.
A 24-year-old former Biggenden woman with no connection to deceased father Todd Mooney and his 10-year-old daughter, Kirra, has been charged with their murder.
The woman has been charged with two counts of murder and one of arson after the bodies of the father and his daughter were found in a burnt-out shed in Biggenden, in Queensland’s North Burnett Region, on December 20.
Detective Inspector Gary Pettiford could not comment on the alleged motive of the woman, who lived in Biggenden as a child. He said she did not appear to have any previous connection to Mr Mooney or his daughter, but used to live in Biggenden as a child.
“We don’t believe she was known to either the deceased or Rebecca (Hansen), Todd’s fiance,” he said. “I believe she has some connection there, she went to school there as a child, so she has lived there in the past, but in recent times she has lived in Maryborough.”
The woman was arrested in Maryborough, 80km east of Biggenden, and will appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Saturday by video link. She will be remanded in the court on Monday.
Inspector Pettiford said determining the cause of the fire – which took fire crews seven hours to extinguish – would be “quite difficult” given the extent of damage to the building.
“The building was completely burned to the ground, which makes our forensic examination quite difficult,” he said.
Mr Mooney and his daughter are survived by his fiance Rebecca Hansen, who he was due to marry at the property days after the tragedy. “Rebecca and her adult children, and her whole family, and Todd’s family are, as you can understand, devastated,” Insp Pettiford said
