Ahhh, but this is no ordinary rum. We must sip it slowly; it won top prize at the World Rum Awards in London.

I’m imagining lots of eye-patches, beards and parrots on that judging panel.

It was a bunch of the world’s leading distillers and drinks experts, actually. They praised the Bundaberg’s aromas of “polished oak, rich fruit cake and treacle” and palate full of “raisins, chocolate cake and banana”. It’s a blend of rums from the distillery’s reserves, finished in port and sherry barrels, hence the complexity.

What to say: “I’m getting toasted nuts and brioche on the nose. I never knew rum could be so elegant and nuanced.”

What not to say:“AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE.”
