Who wore it best on the Brownlow red carpet
Plenty of old Hollywood glamour and shades of pinks reigned, while the men largely played it safe at this year’s Brownlow Medal.
AFL’s night of nights celebrated Carlton’s Patrick Cripps as the best and fairest on the ground in 2024 with a record Bronwlow Medal tally, as the high-stakes – and occasional high-risk – glamour of the Brownlow Medal red carpet also took centre stage.
The Blues’ 29-year-old captain won his second Brownlow on Monday night, two years after his first, leaving the rest of the field in his wake from halfway through the count. Cripps finished with a record-breaking 45 points, seven clear of Nick Daicos, after claiming maximum points in 12 of Carlton’s 22 matches.
While the Collingwood star finished runner-up, his partner Arlette Amor was a standout in the fashion stakes, as arrivals at the Crown Palladium in Melbourne balanced striking looks with reliable glamour.
Melbourne stylist Lana Wilkinson, who dressed Amor and TV presenter and ex-Crows player Abbey Holmes, focused on classic silhouettes this year. “We’ve drawn inspiration from classic old Hollywood glamour focusing on timeless hourglass shapes that complement the female form, embodying that iconic sophisticated elegance,” she said.
This could be seen in Armor’s look, a strapless draped gown in ice blue. For Wilkinson the key to a good Brownlow outfit is confidence. “Confidence is everything. It’s the key to pulling off any look – you must feel like you’re owning what you are wearing,” she said.
Triple J announcer Dee Salmin – partner of Collingwood captain Darcy Moore – looked fabulous in a custom corset made of stained-glass pieces, the work of Melbourne designer Poppy Templeton. Her pink skirt slotted right in with the slew of shades of bubblegum, blush and salmon worn by the likes of Natasha Germano, partner of Nic Martin of Essendon, Siena Tainsh, partner of Zane Duursma of the Roos, and Kim Ravaillion, netball player and partner of Adam Treloar of the Western Bulldogs.
Neila Brennan, partner of Bulldogs’ Marcus Bontempelli, embraced shades of blush pink and a Hollywood glamour vibe. Jessica Gawn, wife of the Demons’ Max Gawn, switched up the reigning silhouette with an off-the-shoulder red number.
Several guests wore designs by couturier Oglia Loro Couture, including Charlotte Viney, wife of Melbourne’s Jack Viney in a bedazzled black dress with a sideways midriff cutaway, Annalise Dalins, fiancee of Collingwood’s Josh Daicos, who shimmered in a beaded and fringed one-shoulder gown, and Alex Pendlebury, wife of Pies veteran Scott Pendlebury in a frothy tulle strapless number.
