Fashion takes to Sydney’s Pitt Street Mall once again this week with the return of Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night Out.

Actor Mia Healey says the event, now in its 15th year, is her chance to support the Australian fashion industry, and the creative people who work within it.

“I think Australia hosts some of the most creative people in fashion. I’ve been lucky enough to wear and support amazing Aussie brands over the years, and it makes me feel so proud to be Australian and excited to have people around the world see how incredible the artistry is here in the fashion industry,” she says.

“I feel like, as an Aussie, it’s important we look out for and support each other whenever we can. It’s who we are.”

Healey is on a trip home from Toronto, where she has just wrapped filming on her new project, Motorheads – also starring Drake Rodger (The Winchesters), Johnna Dias-Watson (Wednesday) and Josh Macqueen (Significant Others) – out early in 2025. She reveals her character has given her an insight into the world of cars – “new-ish for me”– and a link to her teenage years.

“I was really keen to play a character who lives in a rural town,” Healey says.

“That’s how I spent my high school years so it felt like something I could slip into and have some fun with.

“I think the character I play, Alicia, has a lot of strength, and there were a few spooky similarities between us that had me and Johnny Norris, our showrunner kind of scratching our heads. But yeah, I’m excited for people to see it. It’s a lot of fun.”

Healey will be on the front row for the Vogue event, which kicks off at noon, and includes runway shows of new-season fashion from Australian brands such as Rebecca Vallance, Aje and Albus Lumen (shoppable online at vogue.com.au), a curation of emerging brands with the American Express Shop Small runway, in-store experiences, and fashion trends presentations and beauty masterclasses with Vogue staff.

Adrian Norris, co-founder and chief executive of Aje, will showcase designs from its new range, Aje Studio.

“Vogue’s iconic celebration of Australian fashion is always a pleasure to participate in, we love recognising these moments whenever we can,” he says.

“This year, we’re thrilled to also be introducing Aje Studio, a seasonless range of effortless, elevated styles that bring back the essence of Aje’s beginnings.”

Edwina McCann, editorial director and publisher of Vogue Australia, says the event originated from a genuine desire to support the Australian fashion industry. The event was founded in 2009 by American Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour as a way to support retailers feeling the impact of the global financial crisis.

“As we celebrate 15 years, we’re excited to host the biggest shopping event yet and bring people into the city for a fun night out,” McCann says.

Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore AO says last year’s Vogue event led to a 32 per cent increase in foot traffic for businesses in the area.

“I am proud of the city’s 15-year partnership with Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night Out and love the energy and excitement this event brings to Sydney,” she says.

Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night Out will be held on Thursday October 17 in Pitt Street Mall, Sydney from 10am to 9pm. www.vogue.com.au/fno
