Australian cricketer James Faulkner has sold his Hobart penthouse in the Zero Davey complex.
Australian cricketer James Faulkner has sold his Hobart penthouse in the Zero Davey complex. Knight Frank Tasmania agents Tom Triffitt and Pam Corkhill sold the apartment after having a low to mid $3 million range. Faulkner, who plays his cricket for the table-topping Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League, paid $1.995m for the three-bed apartment in 2014. It was a savvy purchase by the Launceston-born Faulkner. The penthouse previously traded for $3.2m in 2007. He renovated the 235sq m apartment overlooking the marina. Faulkner shared the apartment with his partner Bri Sheppard. Meanwhile Aaron Finch, who leads the Melbourne Renegades, has $550,000 to $600,000 hopes for a two-bedroom Melbourne investment apartment, set inside a Kensington warehouse complex. Rendina agent Lou Rendina will take it to a February 16 auction. It cost $579,000 off the plan in 2010.
Mystery buyer revealed
Mark Healey, the British entrepreneur, has emerged as the buyer of the $16m record sale at Red Hill South late last year. The Hull-born Healey, who also owns a $20m Toorak mansion with his Melbourne-born wife Kelly, snapped up the Mornington Peninsula weekender in just 15 days. The 6.5 hectare estate includes a five-bedroom homestead with views across Western Port to Phillip Island. It sits in gardens featuring a self-cleaning pool. Rob Curtain and Danielle Vains at Peninsula Sothebys International secured the sale. Healey is the son of billionaire Eddie Healey, who made his money building Meadowhall, a shopping centre in Sheffield, which he sold for £1.17bn ($2.13bn) in 2014.
Bathing box fails to sell
A tiny bathing box built in the early 1960s on Point King Beach at Portsea failed to sell at its onsite long weekend auction. The box had been offered publicly for the first time by Ilze Moran and Warwick Anderson from RT Edgar. Bidding stopped at $315,000 after its $280,000 opening offer. They had set a pre-auction guide of $300,000 to $330,000 for the box known as 1 Point King Road. The most recent sale on the bay was pre-auction for a larger boat shed at $900,000 or so. Another offering remains listed with a $450,000 to $495,000 guide.
Getty-inspired mansion listed
The philanthropist Neil Balnaves has listed his Hope Island, Gold Coast estate which was inspired by the J. Paul Getty Museum. Balnaves’ Killymoon Drive mansion is centred around an outdoor courtyard with an 18m pool with fountains. Handpainted frescoes by artist Michael Place reference Roman mythology. The holiday home, built by the family in the mid-90s on its 2834sq m holding, is listed through Charlon Delos Angeles of Amir Mian Prestige Property Agents. Balnaves, who founded the Southern Star Group, has been a trustee member of Bond University and was once chairman of Dreamworld operator Ardent Leisure.
