Prize catch for fisherman
Port Lincoln fisherman Sam Sarin has sold his Mermaid Beach holiday home for $5.625 million.
Port Lincoln fisherman Sam Sarin, who runs Australian Fishing Enterprises, has sold his Mermaid Beach holiday home in southeast Queensland for $5.625 million. It is the third sale over $5m on Mermaid Beach this year. The other two were a knockdown/rebuild and a land parcel. The four-bedroom home, on exclusive Hedges Avenue, comes with a lift linking all three levels, from the basement theatre room with bar to the rooftop entertaining area, also with bar and barbecue kitchen. The main living areas open to the swimming pool and a beachfront lounge. Sarin paid $3.2m in 2001. Kollosche Prestige agent Michael Kollosche sold the home after trying to sell it for $8.9m in 2008. It has been bought by the Melbourne-based Morrissy family.
Something to sing about
New Zealand-born baritone Teddy Tahu Rhodes has bought a residential warehouse conversion in Collingwood. He’s paid $1.98m for the two-storey Byron Street property. The creative space filled with art and office furniture in the listing photos features high industrial ceilings and polished concrete and timber floors. Jellis Craig Fitzroy recently sold the property, having $1.7m to $1.85m hopes. Rhodes won the Mobil Song Quest to secure funding to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. By 2004 he had received an ARIA award, then four years later he won a Helpmann Award for best male performer in an opera for his role in Dead Man Walking.
Schiffmann shifting
BDO Brisbane managing partner Tony Schiffmann has listed his contemporary Hamptons-style Clayfield home. Schiffmann, who has been partner at the accountancy giant for more than three decades, paid $1.8m for the home in 2003. Set on 1180sq m, the two-level home has five bedrooms, a media room and two studies. The master suite comes with a Juliette-style balcony that overlooks the tennis court. A swimming pool also sits in the landscaped gardens. Ray White Ascot agents Dwight Ferguson and Damon Warat have scheduled an October 28 auction.
Chip off the old block
The Melbourne apartment that then Sydney couple Madi and Jarrod designed on the seventh season of The Block has sold pre-auction. The fourth floor sub-penthouse that was renovated on The Block Sky High series in 2013 had a price guide of $1.8m to $1.95m. John Holdsworth at Greg Hocking Holdsworth, who marketed the four-bedroom, three-bathroom apartment, secured more than the guidance. It fetched $1.6m in the finale four years ago, having won the guest bedroom and ensuite renovation week with their citrus yellow bedroom and disco shower, which judge Neale Whitaker described as one of the best bedrooms he’d ever seen on The Block. This year celebrity couple Elyse Knowles and Josh Barker are tipped by the bookies as odds-on favourites. The auction finale will see the five houses likely fetch $3m-plus prices. Investors are hoping they might secure $2000-plus a week.
