Mercedes-Benz boss Horst von Sanden negotiates Port Melbourne sale
Mercedes-Benz Australia-Pacific boss Horst von Sanden and wife Angelika have sold pre-auction in Port Melbourne.
Mercedes-Benz Australia-Pacific boss Horst von Sanden and wife Angelika have sold pre-auction in Port Melbourne. They were asking $2.1 million-$2.3m through Marshall White for the double-fronted 1890s Victorian era home, which had a designer renovation three years ago. The couple paid $1,085,000 in 2012. They kept the facade and rebuilt the rest. It now comprises three bedrooms, a study and Finish sauna. Von Sanden, who has worked at Mercedes-Benz for three decades, came to Australia in 2000. He goes to Germany six to seven times a year, so wants something a bit more lock-up-and-leave.
Sandy Bay rides the wave
Sandy Bay remains Tasmania’s hotspot in the island’s continuing property price boom. Knight Frank Hobart agent Pam Corkhill secured a $3.1m buyer last weekend for a Derwent River waterfront with a boatshed on the beach. About 200 people came for the auction with bidding from local, interstate and overseas interests. A local family active in the boating community were the successful buyers. The tightly held home was last in the news after its conversion from its time as the coach house of the 1880s Mawhera estate. The home featured on the cover of Australian Home Beautiful in 1968, after its Barry Fisher alterations for stockbroker Russell McNaughton and wife and model Bettye who had moved from Melbourne. A modern hillside Sandy Bay home with river and mountain views sold recently for $3.45m through Ray White Hobart agents Ant Manton and Simon Purdon. The five-bedroom home had belonged to Sydney property developer Piers Dawson-Damer and wife Kim, who emerged last year as the buyers of Sandy Bay’s $6.5m record-breaking riverfront, Sentosa. The Dawson-Damers had sold the Ellington Road home for $3m early last year.
Deagues secure Toorak home
William Deague, of the millionaire property-developing Deague family, has secured a Toorak home set on the corner of two of Melbourne’s priciest streets. The 1930s home, hidden behind a vine-draped facade on the corner of Orrong and St George’s roads, was mooted to have been set to sell to Chinese buyers for $14m, but they didn’t proceed. Instead, Deague paid $12.2m through Marshall White for the two-storey, European-style home with four bedrooms. A swimming pool, heated spa and tennis court sit in the 1995sq m grounds. It last traded at $2.2m in 1994.
Grand Queenslander on market
White Gables, a luxury Clayfield home only owned by a handful of families since its construction more than a century ago, has been listed for sale. The Naughton family became only the third family to own the home after paying $1.3m in 2002. They extensively renovated, restored and extended the six-bedroom home over their 16 years’ ownership. Ray White New Farm agents Matt Lancashire and Christine Rudolph have a June 9 auction. The double-storey home on 1255sq m features a fully self-contained studio, swimming pool and spa and a championship-size tennis court.
