Mansion-Trophy: Swan’s buy a bargain

Swan’s buy a bargain

Melbourne radio host Chrissie Swan seems set to be moving from South Yarra to Hawthorn East. It follows the near $5.5 million sale of the South Yarra property she shared with partner Chris Saville, which was bought for $2.8m in 2012. The couple have quietly settled on an 1880s Victorian in Hawthorn East. Their $3.2m purchase looks a good buy. Jellis Craig agents Campbell Ward and Chris Daly wanted more. The period home has five bedrooms, three bathrooms and a parents’ level with its own master bedrooms, study, balcony and dual vanity ensuite. French doors open from the open-plan kitchen and dining area to the decked alfresco with a fireplace that looks over the gardens. In the 955sq m gardens there’s a studio with home office. Swan will be the Moomba Queen in this year’s Moomba Parade alongside Moomba King Jimmy Giggle, co-star of ABC TV children’s show Giggle and Hoot.

Volcano views

Sky High, a rural weekender north of Melbourne at Mount Franklin, has been sold. The ridgeline home, conceived by designer builders Josh and Tik White, comes in a triangle shape to allow for 360-degree views of the Macedon region. Perched on 20ha, Sky High was built around a central courtyard with views of the dormant volcano of Mount Franklin.

Another runs along the perimeter, with a swimming pool. There are four bedrooms and three bathrooms. Jellis Craig agents Robert Broadhurst and Terry Gibson had a guide of between $2.5m and $2.75m. They describe it as an assertive piece of architecture. It has spring water pumped from a 200m bore.

Leichhardt’s launch point

Southwest Queensland grazing property Cogoon Station has been listed for sale. It is the district from where Prussian explorer Ludwig Leichhardt set off in 1848 on his fateful expedition, never to be seen again. Cogoon, in the Maranoa region, 60km south of Roma, then belonged to politician Allan Macpherson. The near 6000ha grazing property is subdivided into 11 paddocks. There’s an as new three-bedroom Glendale home on the estate, as well as an older homestead, 12 dams, cattle yards, machinery and hay sheds. Ruralco Property GDL agent John Sims has set an April 20 auction.

Rugby brothers make a play

Rugby union brothers Anthony and Saia Fainga’a have offloaded a Brisbane land parcel. The near 700sq m Windsor block on Wilston Hill with views to the city fetched $1.58m. The brothers bought the property for $1.031m and demolished a two-bedroom home to create the level block. Ray White New Farm agent Meaghan Bakker sold the land, which came with plans for two three-level homes. It was sold to a local builder. It’s the second piece of Brisbane real estate the brothers have sold in the last year. The pair built, then sold, a five-bedroom Seven Hills home for $1.17m mid-last year, having paid $432,500 for the 415sq m block in 2014. Saia, who is playing for London Irish, says he want to focus on property full-time when his career ends. Anthony is turning out for Brumbies in Canberra, where the brothers are investing in the development of 19 townhouses.
