Dave Sharma, the likely Liberal candidate for Wentworth in next year’s federal election, intends listing his Canberra home after buying within the Wentworth electorate yesterday. Sharma only started looking with wife Rachel and their three daughters after losing the by-election in late October. The Turramurra-based family are to settle into a $2.6 million Paddington terrace secured pre-auction. Local agents suggested the aspiring politician had been willing to spend up to $3m. Sharma rented in Bellevue Hill after he won Liberal Party preselection for the seat vacated by former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull. Sharma, who lost the vote count by an 1850 margin to independent Kerryn Phelps, resided at the Barton home in between his diplomatic postings overseas.
Bishop’s former home for sale
A Claremont home that once belonged to the former foreign affairs minister Julie Bishop has been listed for sale. Bishop owned the property for six years in the 1990s, when she was a Perth lawyer. She paid $435,000 in 1993, $5000 less than it traded for in 1991, and went on to sell it for $1.05m in 1999, a year after she was elected to the House of Representatives.
Last traded for $1.63m in 2003, the buyers have since restored the grand single-level 1900s Federation home on 1265sq m. Behind its tuck-pointed exterior, the home has four bedrooms, three bathrooms and three living rooms. Offers close on December 11 through Ray White Cottesloe Mosman Park agent Jody Fewster.
Brighton ‘town hall’ listed
Kinane, the luxury Brighton home of the former National Dairy Products co-founder Antonio ‘Tony’ Esposito and wife Violeta, is up for sale. The listing comes a year after the company went into liquidation owing millions to dairy farmer creditors. There’s a caveat on the property arising from matters concerning his earlier venture, United Dairy Power, which was sold to a Hong Kong-based company for $70m in 2014. The opulent mansion has been listed for $20m, almost double the $10.8m paid in 2013. It was sold by telecoms businessman Russell Small, who had renovated the Max Beck-built Kinane Street mansion that features views overlooking Brighton Beach. Buxton Brighton is marketing the home — dubbed by locals the Brighton “Town Hall”, given its prominence — until December 18.
Designer’s pad on offer
Fashion designer Fella Hamilton is selling her Toorak apartment. She’s asking $5.7m-$5.95m for the European-inspired, Nicholas Day-designed three-bedroom, three-bathroom apartment on St Georges Road. Just one of two ground-floor apartments in the block, its French doors open to gardens that feature a pool. Hamilton paid $1.8m in 1998 when she bought with her late husband, Melbourne businessman Dick Harbig. Kay & Burton South Yarra agents Robyn Feigen and Michael Gibson are seeking offers until December 13. Hamilton began her eponymous label in 1969, expanding to 30 stores. The company is now ran by her son David and his wife Sharon.
