New Apple TV: Five best new features
The new Apple TV is all about the apps — but it is not the only big new feature which will get Apple fans all excited.
The new Apple TV goes on sale in Australia tomorrow, costing $269 and $349 for 32 and 64 Gigabyte storage models.
You can find a full hands-on review of Apple TV here — but Apple will be banking on these five new key features to make it a big success.
1. MORE APPS
Apple TV now has its own app store. It means third party developers can write TV apps and games for it. As a result, Apple TV is soon expected to offer a myriad of content with hundreds of apps.
2. EASY NAVIGATION
Apple TV has a new, cool looking remote control that includes a glass trackpad. Sliding your finger around the trackpad makes it easy to navigate Apple TV menus and search for content.
3. SIRI
You can issue voice commands to Apple’s Siri using the remote control as a microphone. Siri responds to natural language requests and is capable of more complex searches such as “find me movies with both Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe”
4. MOVIE SEARCH
Apple TV has an ability to search for content across different providers. Searching for say, the science fiction series Continuum will tell you it is available through both iTunes and Netflix and lets you choose which service you want. The global search works only for iTunes and netflix in Australia at this time.
5. REMOTE
The remote control doesn’t need regular batteries. Instead you charge it by connecting the remote to a computer using the lightning-to-USB cable provided in the box.
