Controversial White House communication director Anthony Scaramucci has been ousted from his job after less than 11 days in the latest upheaval within the Trump administration.

The dramatic move is reported to have been initiated by Donald Trump’s new chief of staff, former General John Kelly who believed Mr Scaramucci was not disciplined enough and had burned his credibility.

• ANALYSIS: A decisive move to end dysfunction
• TIMELINE: A humiliating fall

Mr Kelly was sworn in yesterday as chief of staff is a move designed to bring order to a chaotic White House.

Hours after Mr Scaramucci was removed, the president tweeted: “A great day at the White House!”

Mr Scaramucci’s abrupt departure follows his profanity-laden comments to a New Yorker journalist last week in which he attacked the then White House chief of staff Reince Priebus and chief strategist Steve Bannon.

Mr Priebus resigned after the attack in which Mr Scaramucci called him “a f***ing paranoid schizophrenic, a paranoiac.”

His rant fuelled the growing perception of a White House in chaos and triggered widespread commentary across the US that Donald Trump’s presidency was in deep trouble.

Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer resigned in protest at Mr Scaramucci’s appointment.

In a statement the White House said: “Anthony Scaramucci will be leaving his role as White House Communications Director. Mr. Scaramucci felt it was best to give Chief of Staff John Kelly a clean slate and the ability to build his own team. We wish him all the best.”

However White House press spokesman Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters Mr Trump felt Mr Scaramucci’s comments were “inappropriate for a person in that position.”

The move came hours after Mr Trump tweeted that there was ‘no White House chaos.’
