Ice Cream of Day: Connoisseur Peanut Butter & Pretzel

This ice cream is supposed to evoke the emotions of a Bedford Stuyvesant bodega. Apparently!

Peters — the maker — calls them juice pops. The rest of us will respond to the term icy pole, popsicle or even iced lolly. So it’s not an ice cream as such. More a kind of frozen response to the millennial obsession with healthy juices, albeit with the dumbest names (such as Paging Dr Green, which is apple, pear, spinach and desert lime).

Millennials will avoid them precisely because of the dumb names, which is a pity for the maker, because they’re great. Orange You Glad (it’s so self-conscious) is pear, blood orange and strawberry: nicely acidic, not too much sugar, and sick on a hot day. I’m told that’s a compliment.
