Denise Goldsworthy will be Edith Cowan University’s next chancellor
Edith Cowan University has chosen experienced executive and director Denise Goldsworthy as the chancellor for its next phase.
Edith Cowan University has appointed Denise Goldsworthy as its next chancellor, commencing in January. She has served on the university council since 2013 as deputy chancellor.
Ms Goldsworthy has a metallurgy degree with honours and university medal from the University of Newcastle, and has held senior positions with Rio Tinto and BHP as well as a range of board roles.
She said she had been “very fortunate to have been part of the evolution of ECU over the last eight years”.
“ECU is in an exciting position, with ECU City set to become Australia’s newest, most innovative and dynamic campus,” Ms Goldsworthy said.
“I also look forward to leading on the implementation of ECU’s next strategic plan, which will map our path out of this global pandemic and continue to build on ECU’s reputation for world-class teaching and research.”
Vice-chancellor Steve Chapman said the council and the university executive were “delighted to have someone as widely respected as Denise to serve as ECU’s next chancellor”.
The current chancellor, Kerry Sanderson, had “successfully led ECU through the challenges of COVID-19 while ensuring we continued to provide our students with a five-star student experience” as well as being a strong advocate on the campus project, Professor Chapman said.
