Reef grief, dead Docklands, and jersey mania
Without plans to slash our greenhouse emissions and push other nations to do the same, money spent on the Great Barrier Reef is largely window dressing to cover the burning shop (“$1bn top-up to keep reef off UN’s list”, 28/1).

I’ve been hearing of the reef’s imminent death for 50 years, yet it is in the best of health. Anyone who thinks otherwise should go and have a look.

Ministers Frydenberg and Birmingham (“Brakes come off, economy surges”, 28/1) would be hard-pressed to see any signs of their “wonderful economic recovery” had they walked through Melbourne’s Docklands area as I did this morning – it was a sad spectacle with lots of abandoned shops and very few shoppers.

As federal Minister for Sport Richard Colbeck had a duty to attend the Ashes in Hobart (“Colbeck under pressure as Jacqui Lambie, Labor question minister’s priorities”, 28/1).

I am still trying to work out the difference in media response to the statements of Haneen Zreika (“Pride jumper a step too far for AFLW’s first Muslim player”, 28/1) and those of Israel Folau.

OK team, what jerseys will we need this season? There’s the Rainbow jersey, the BLM, the DV and the Indigenous round, of course. We’ll need a Voices To and a Voices Of, Women’s Day, and a couple of late entries this year, way overdue, for the Barrier Reef and Climate Change rounds. We’ll wear the club strip if we make the finals, if everyone is OK with that.

I doubt anyone will be getting served at any Greek restaurant around the country on Saturday night while the Special Ks are playing their doubles final.

Having only the Holocaust taught at schools is wrong (“Deakin Uni survey reveals one quarter of Australians in the dark about Holocaust”, 26/1). What about Pol Pot and Cambodia? Stalin killed millions. The list would go on. Genocide should be taught, not just the Holocaust.

US school authorities have banned To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. It has been all downhill since Noddy was banned, and look at the huge difference that made to discrimination and racism.
