Last Post: Albanese and Rudd on the tariffs case

With current PM Anthony Albanese and former PM Kevin Rudd pleading our case concerning tariffs, I have to say I’m not feeling confident!

Unfortunately, decent, good-living Muslim people working in areas of public health will now come under a cloud of suspicion; understandable perhaps, but rather sad at the same time.

One wonders whether it has ever occurred to our university vice-chancellors that they should be establishing their so-called “safe houses” for the activists and leave the rest of their students free to get on with their education unmolested.

I quite liked the Greens when they were led by Bob Brown and so was tolerated much like my Aunt Maud’s Pekingese. But the party’s quirky policies, targeting mainly environmental issues, have now morphed into economic and social weirdities.

So, the Matildas’ Sam Kerr has been found “not guilty” of racially aggravated harassment (“Kerr cleared but captaincy on the line”, 13/2).

Could we please spare a thought for the embattled taxi driver who suffered a trashed cab and may well have forgone his taxi fare. We are yet to hear if he has been fairly compensated.

Why do our big four banks escape the scrutiny that our big supermarkets get from the community when the model for increased bank profits, dividends and share prices is simple. Just keep shutting branches and force everyone into internet banking. How many years until no bank branches exist?

Geoff Farnell, Buderim, Qld

Jack Marx’s opinion piece stirred memories for me (“Burger me, some Texan hacker ate my credit card”, 13/2). Some weeks ago my credit card was hacked with the purchase of airline tickets from Jetstar, Uber Eats somewhere in the euro zone, and DoorDash in Melbourne.

However my bank’s reaction was in stark contrast to Jack’s. Two days after reporting my hack, each of the fraudulent transactions had been reversed, and three days later I had my new credit card in the mail.
