Last Post: Third time lucky for Brits, go woke and go broke for netballers

A possible case of third time lucky for the Brits with Rishi Sunak installed as their third PM this year.

Steve Ngeow, Chatswood, NSW

Gina Rinehart, knight in shining armour, came to rescue Netball Australia. Unable to recognise their saviour, the precious princesses saw their own reflected glory of prejudice and piety and branded the innocent knight with the stamp of “illegitimate”.

Jennifer Hall, Wilston, Qld

Have those who oppose Gina Rinehart’s decision ever considered that it is actually her money?

Anne Lindsay, Stanthorpe, Qld

For Netball Australia, the phrase “Go woke and go broke” could ultimately turn out to be a crippling truism.

Dennis Walker, North Melbourne, Vic

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend. In this case, not Gina’s.

Sheila Duke, Balmoral, Qld

One of your correspondents proposes it would be fine if Gina Rinehart chose to slip a brown envelope under the door at Netball Australia (Letters, 25/10). That seems to suggest filthy lucre is acceptable provided you don’t give too much thought to where it came from and carbon-intensive industries are fine provided one doesn’t get badged with them.

Joanna Wriedt, Eaglemont, Vic

Gina Rinehart should not have to apologise for the sins of her father. I admire her for her stand against the craziness. The team can’t bag someone but still accept their money.

Lizzie Haydon, Runcorn, Qld

Having looked at the letters in The Australian pushing climate change and woke ideas there is a pattern to where they mainly come from: inner-city Melbourne. Not likely to see any China-made wind turbines or solar panels predominantly made with coal-fired power turning up soon in any of their parks or open areas.

Gerry Jongebloed, Plympton, SA

It is unfortunate that Treasury sees motherhood as a penalty (“Most mothers don’t want to work longer and harder, thanks”, 25/10). No mention is made of the volunteer and community work once largely carried out by mothers – Meals on Wheels, charity craft stalls, visiting hospitals and care homes, and so on. Is this also a penalty?

Roseanne Schneider, Toowoomba, Qld

I note the Climate Change and Energy Minister is becoming more active. Let’s hope he’s not just Bowen in the wind.

Ross MacDonald, Furnissdale, WA
